I'm thinking to upgrade from my Etrex Legend. Maybe a 60csx or a Colorado. Researching them right now. Might depend on any after christmas deals, so if anyone sees one for cheap, let me know!

I was wondering though, how does the SD cards, standard on most GPS now it seems, actually work? I know it can be used for additional maps, although do these have to be loaded from the card? If the unit supports 1000 waypoints, does the card expand that to X waypoints? That's what seems most helpful to me. I used to think 1000 waypoints was enough for anyone... of course it's said Bill Gates said the same thing about 640k...

Yes, you'll need a microSD card to hold any maps on the 60csx. we've got City Navigator for the entire US and Canada loaded on a 2Gb card. They are cheap these days.

Unfortunately, on the 60csx, you're still limited to 1000 waypoints when loaded in the usual fashion. however by using garmin's free POI loader, you can load 1000's more. They don't appear like the traditional waypoints, but it is possible to load them in the gps this way.

you might also want to consider the oregon series.

Yes, i have over 13,000 traditional Ohio caches from the beginning of caching in the state, all loaded as custom POIs which end up on the SD card smile.gif We use 4Gb as a minimum and have no trouble with those and larger cards. The point is that with the maps, its not the size, but the number of map sectors you can save. So we have the entire continental US street level routable maps loaded on to the card along with the Ohio Topo and have some room to spare.
