Last night Cleveland Metro Parks put on a cache event aimed at educating geocachers on how to identify Meth Labs and their dumpsites. Carly, CMP’s Naturalist and Geocaching Program director, arranged the event for us after having gone through the presentation herself as part of her job.

Geocachers are often in remote areas of parks, exactly where criminals like to cook their meth and discard the leftover supplies. The odds for a geocacher to stumble across these are higher than the general public.

Meth labs and dumpsites are potentially lethal. The combined toxins and poisons found there can kill if inhaled or touched. Some of the containers used can even explode. Another risk is running into the person who is operating the lab. He/she is not going to be pleased that you discovered them...
