Since 9/11 I can not count the number of times someone has said "Thank you for your service". An entirely different reaction than when I joined 29 yrs ago. When we've been away from home and are just plain tired it lifts our day. When little kids pointing and saying "Mommy a SOLDIER!" the pride is beyond belief. The acknowledgement is not why we serve but it makes the service easier. It brings home the reasons we do what we do. Why we are so far from home and family. And why we put ourselves in harms way. That reason is you, the citizens of the United States of America.
Whistlen - your brother has been there. Tell him not to be complacent and come home this time as safe as he did last time.

My niece will be heading to Iraq in November / December will be over there for a year, please remember her in your thoughts and prayers, and remeber all the others that are serving for our freedom.

My little brother did 18 months in Iraq and got the license plates for his car. He came out of the store the other day to find a Thank You note on his car which just made his day! He's being deployed again on the 28th of this month.
Believe me, little things mean a LOT!
