Here's a recent article from California that points out the importance of not making our caches look "bomblike" in public areas.

This case is being discussed in a Groundspeak Forums thread. There, I noted that PVC pipe caches are generally a bad idea. As a Groundspeak volunteer, I have extensive knowledge of bomb squad incidents -- whether or not publicized like this one was. Approximately 15% of all law enforcement responses to discovered caches involve PVC or other "pipe bomb" types of containers. Think about how many of these containers you've found -- for me, less than 2% of my total finds. That tells me that these containers cause problems disproportionate to their popularity. A third of all incidents involve ammo boxes -- be sure to LABEL your box, and REMOVE the military markings. Another third are tupperware and other "regular" containers. The remaining caches are micros, suspected of being "drug drops."
In another local forum less friendly than this one, I was flamed for unfairly singling out PVC containers, and for posting based on my "feelings" rather than "facts." That made me laugh!
The Chums do an EXCELLENT job of using common sense when choosing containers and hiding spots.
